Tips for Selecting New House Siding
Your home's siding is oftentimes its most distinguishable feature. The color and style of siding are what gives your home its desired look. When it comes time to replace your home's vinyl siding or you are selecting siding for a new construction home, you might find it difficult to choose—there are many variations of siding materials, styles, and colors. So many choices can lead to an overwhelming decision! Keep these tips in mind:
Choose a style that you will enjoy 10, 20, even 30 years down the line. Vinyl siding is made to last for many years to come. Keep in mind that whatever style or color you choose today will likely remain your home's exterior for the foreseeable future—it is not something that you will change again in another few years.
Pick a color that complements the existing style of your home and other homes in your neighborhood. When selecting a color, keep in mind other elements of your home that already exist and cannot be changed. For example, if brick or stone is used in your home's exterior construction, what color tones or shades do you need to consider? What about the shade of your roofing shingles? You will want to select a siding color that works well with these existing elements.
Also, in some communities, a homeowners' association dictates approved color schemes for home exteriors—you will need to make sure your plans are approved. In other neighborhoods, there are no rules, but it's probably a good idea in general not to choose a color that will strongly clash with your neighbors.
Consider other elements of your home's exterior. For example, if your gutters are weathered and dirty with built up grime and contaminants, they will not be magically improved with the addition of new house siding. If anything, they may stand out more—and not in a good way. If you are making the decision to upgrade your home's exterior with new siding, consider also upgrading other outdated features like your gutters and downspouts.
Use a respected contractor. Replacing or installing new siding is a job for the professionals. Call on your local siding contractor to ensure the job is done right the first time. If you are in Northeast Ohio, you can count on RJK Construction for the highest quality siding installation.
