Selecting CertainTeed Asphalt Roofing Shingles

To many of our customers, one roof is no different from another—and we understand that. After all, as roofing professionals here at RJK Construction, it's our job to understand the complexities of a roof's construction and the variety of materials that can be used. However, we believe it is important for our customers to understand that even a simple asphalt shingle can vary depending on the design, the layers of construction, and the appearance. As you look at materials, you will soon begin to understand that every roof is unique.

At RJK, we use industry-leading CertainTeed roofing products, which include three different types of asphalt shingles:

Strip shingles: More often than not, you will see homes using strip shingles, as these are the most basic type of shingle available. Generally, these shingles look like slate—they are very flat against the roofline and lightweight. We find that homeowners replacing roof shingles will commonly use CertainTeed Strip Shingles. These are also commonly used in the home construction of economy-priced homes.

Dimensional shingles: These dual-layered roofing shingles are now the most popularly used shingle in the United States. Homeowners like that their construction gives their home a multi-dimensional appearance that is thicker and richer than that achieved with a traditional strip shingle. CertainTeed offers the Landmark® Series, which are a prototypical design for a dimensional roofing shingle.

LuxuryShingles: LuxuryShingles are laminated shingles that have a design that mimics "old-world" roof shingles, such as natural slate or shake. These shingles are usually chosen for their aesthetic appeal to achieve a desired look on a home. There are many CertainTeed products to choose from in this type of shingle, including the Grand Manor® and Presidential Shake®.
